On February 7, 2014 in Sochi will start XXII Olympic Winter Games. This is the second Olympics for Russia, first - Olympics - 80 - remember even those who at the time of its holding in Moscow were children. But it was summer, and this winter games – everything very different, and the country is in agitation as the first time. The fact that the venue for the competitions in winter sports has been selected Sochi - a resort town and the "summer capital" of Russia, at first was kind of confusion. However, almost as soon as it becomes clear that this is just another challenge, an additional reason to be proud: Sochi will become the first city with a subtropical climate, which will host the Winter Olympics.
Application of Sochi to host the Games in 2014 was recognized as the winner based on the results of the 119th session of the International Olympic Committee's on July 4, 2007. By tradition, the closing ceremony of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver has witnessed the transfer of the Olympic flag to the mayor of Sochi Anatoly Pakhomov, after that over the stadium was shot up Russian flag and the audience and television witnessed the presentation of Sochi as a hostess in the next Winter Olympics. The Presentation involved figure skaters Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov , opera singer Maria Gulegina , Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under conducting of Valery Gergiev. After XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi is close on the heels Baku 2015 European Games, which is going to start in June 2015.
In June 2015, the city of Baku, capital of Azerbaijan will host the first European Games.
The Baku European Games Operation Committee (BEGOC) is responsible for planning and delivering this multisport event for athletes from the 49 National Olympic Committees of Europe. The event is regulated by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and will be held every four years.
The Games will showcase Azerbaijan as a vibrant and modern European nation of great achievement and reflect Baku's passion for sport and culture, unifying people across Europe in an inspiring and memorable celebration of world-class competition.
