"Mini-summit" on European security will be held in Berlin in April of this year, said the director of Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger.
"The Munich Security Conference is designed to give impulse to new processes that will shape the future of European security. In the end of April, we will hold a mini-summit on this issue in Berlin.
That is to say, Munich will move to Berlin" - said Ischinger, opening work of Munich Forum. The membership of the April summit, he did not specify.
This year Munich Security Conference, which began on Friday, February 1 and will last three days, took place in the 49 th time. The central themes of the forum are the military operation in Mali, the situation in Syria and the Middle East peace process and Iran's nuclear program. Participants of the forum are more than 400 representatives of the world's political and economic elite, including US Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
The Munich Conference was founded in 1962 as «meeting of defense officials» representatives of country-members of NATO. Currently, it is an international discussion forum gathering of politicians, diplomats, military, business, academic and community leaders from dozens of countries (members of NATO and the EU, as well as states that play an important role in the world - Russia, China, Japan, India and other ).
The conference agenda includes current issues in world politics, as opposition to an international terrorism, reformation of the UN and NATO, the settlement of the situation in the hot spots, strengthening of regional and global security. The focus of the previous conference was the European missile defense issue.
