Pentagon chief left Georgia

Deputy Defense Minister Mikheil Darchiashvili, Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland and Defense Attache Colonel Matthew Dimik saw off the Secretary of Defense from the Tbilisi International Airport.

During the visit, an American colleague stayed with Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania. The head of the Pentagon held a meeting in the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, with the Prime Minister and President of Georgia.

At a meeting in the Ministry of Defense Secretary of Defense once again highlighted the importance of the partnership of America and Georgia, and expressed his willingness that the United States will continue actively cooperate with Georgia in the field of defense. Chuck Hagel praised the package, that was made to Georgia on Welsh summit.

Secretary of Defense visited the National Training Center "Krtsanisi" and met with the Georgian military and the United States Marines. With special thanks he noted the Georgian military men in international peacekeeping missions and sacrifice made by the Georgian people.

Citizens of EU countries can enter the country on the basis of issued by the Member State of identification cards and travel documents.

The right to visa-free entry and stay for 90 days in each 180-day period are issued to the owners of the United Nations or its specialized agencies travel documents - Laissez-Passer.

The same rules apply to citizens, with which Georgia has bilateral and multilateral agreements on visa-free agreement, which does not include specific dates of stay on the territory of Georgia (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan, Moldova, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan).

Visas to Georgia may be short-termed and long-termed.
Short-term visa is issued for a maximum of 30 days. Short-term reusable visa may be issued for up to 5 years. Despite the long duration of the short-term visa, time stay in Georgia should not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period.

Foreigners who wish to stay on the territory of Georgia for more than 90 days for the purpose of work, business, education or connections with family and meet the criteria for obtaining long-term visas, long-term visas are issued.

Long-term visa is issued, valid for 90 days and is not a precondition for obtaining a residence permit or diplomatic accreditation.

For long-term stays in the territory of Georgia foreigners require a visa in spite of their nationality.

In Baku is discussed the construction of the railway Marabda-Kartsakhi

The 20th meeting of the Georgian-Azerbaijan Coordinating Council was held in Baku. The Georgian delegation was headed by the Minister of Economy - Deputy Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili,Azerbaijan was headed by Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov. The parties discussed a number of issues relating to the construction of the railway section Marabda-Kartsakhi and the pace of construction works.

Construction of the segment Marabda-Kartsakhi of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway was begun in 2008. Letting of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway in operation is scheduled for 2015, and the test train will pass through this railway line at the end of this year.

The Ministers emphasized the international importance of the railway line, and also discussed the prospects for economic development of the region within the framework of this project.

Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia will hold joint military exercises

Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia will hold joint military exercises; this agreement was reached at a meeting of defense ministers of the three countries in Nahchivan. This was announced on Tuesday by the head of the defense department of Azerbaijan Zakir Hasanov.

The minister said that the objective of the exercise is to increase the military efficiency of the armed forces.

During of Nakhchivan meeting of the defense ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia - Zakir Hasanov, Ismet Yilmaz and Iraklii Alasania also agreed to hold meetings in this format twice a year, the organization of joint seminars and conferences, creating of trilateral format in military education and cooperation in the military technical sphere, said Hasanov.

The minister said that it is planned to organize meetings of experts to explore promising areas of cooperation.

The defense ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia have also discussed the military-political situation in the region, had an exchange of views on issues of security and restore stability in the region.

The parties also noted the effectiveness of development cooperation in this format.

Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania tomorrow will travel to Azerbaijan. During the visit will be held a trilateral meeting of the defense ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

According to the statement of Alasaniya, this meeting was preparing for a long time with the initiative of the Georgian side last year. As the head of the Defense Ministry of Georgia noted, it will be the first formal meeting of the three ministers.

According to him, the meeting and the subsequent clearance of the agreement will be focused on the planning of actions by three countries aimed to the protection of the communications infrastructure, in particular, oil and gas pipelines and railways in a critical situation, in case if there is a military escalation. As emphasized Alasaniya, it is not a step against anyone. "On the contrary such agreements provide additional support for regional stability", - concluded Alasania.

 

Georgian delegation is sent to the UN General Assembly

Today in New York for the UN General Assembly was sent a delegation of the Academy of Diplomacy and politics of Georgia.

UN Assembly is the biggest event of the year, which is held in the general headquarters and is presented delegations from all member countries of the UN.

In the General Assembly by a special invitation are attended by representatives of international organizations, politicians and academics who develop resolutions and major policies in various fields. The Georgian side the delegation includes officials from the public sector and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

In Georgia, the delegation consists of the Academy of Diplomacy and the policy of Georgia on the basis of the official exclusive rights of the United Nations.

By the statement of the founder of the Academy, Teona Lavrelashvili: "It is encouraging that the UN delegation will be attended by Georgia in a big staff that actively will participate in all sessions and meetings. We intend to emphasize the issue of Georgia's territorial integrity and to demonstrate once again the international partners that the integrity of Georgia is going vital for our generation".

Diplomatic mission in the United States will continue for 10 days, and delegation will be received in Washington, the White House and the State Department, where will be scheduled plans for future cooperation.

From September in Georgia will be two parliamentary capitals

According to Kobakhidze parliamentary sessions will be held in the new building in Kutaisi, and offices and committee hearings - in old building in Tbilisi.

"The parliamentary session will be held in Kutaisi on Wednesday and Friday. As for the meetings of the bureau, committee hearings, and varieties of activities, including meetings with citizens - will be held in Tbilisi. Overall, the work and the life of the parliament will be in Tbilisi" - said Kobahidze.


Representatives of the parliamentary minority of "United National Movement", which, as in the past, that was ruling party achieved to move the parliament to Kutaisi, they believe that the separation of the two cities will lead to additional costs.

"The parliamentary majority has done everything possible that Kutaisi did not obtain of being parliamentary city. Up today, you can congratulate the members of the parliamentary majority - they will have two working cabinets, in western Georgia - Kutaisi, and in eastern Georgia – Tbilisi, said the representative of the United National Movement.
