In Georgia today is the day of restoration of autocephaly of Georgian Apostolic Church

Today is a day of recovery of autocephalous of Georgian Apostolic Church.

In connection with this day, today, at 12:00 am, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, Metropolitan of Pitsunda and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II will serve a chapel in the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

In addition, starting today at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity will again conduct daily chapels.

Georgian church became the autocephalous from the Antioch Church in 457; the Russian Empire abolished it in 1811. Later, the Russian synod led the Georgian church with the Exarchates. Georgian church returned Autocephalous on March 25, 1917, independence of which recognized all the Orthodox Churches, although it has not been notified in black and white.

Thanks to the direct efforts of the Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II, the world's Patriarchate officially recognized the autocephalous of Georgia in 1990.
